Best And Worst Fabrics To Wear To Avoid Sweat Patches
If you are a sweaty person or not, this hot and humid weather makes you go on a wet patch fiasco on your back or underarms. The soaring temperature of 41℃ in the northern part of India can make anyone go crazy but you still have to work whether at home or the office. And working means you need comfortable clothes. There are a few fabrics that are very comfortable and have a high sweat absorption rate and a few you should avoid completely during humid months. Some of them are:
- COTTON: You can call it the summer staple. It has a natural fibre with moisture-wicking properties. The lightweight fabric is very airy. It dries out very quickly leaving no dampness on your body, allowing you to cool down quickly. One can switch to organic cotton garments as it is both skin-friendly and eco-friendly. Many types of outfits are available with bright and vibrant colours and patterns. You should, however, be aware that cotton easily gets wrinkled up. It would be best to pack cotton polyester blends when going on vacation.
- LINEN: There are several benefits to using linen, one of which is that it is lightweight, breathable, and absorbent. Furthermore, it does not adhere to your body, so you can stay cool while wearing it. While linen is wrinkle-resistant, it is not suitable for everyday wear. But it is sure to make you feel calm and cool on those hot days. If you are ready to spend a little on maintenance, then linen will be your best friend.
- CHAMBRAY: Chambray is a plain weave fabric, made with a coloured yarn in the warp and a white yarn in the weft, similar to denim. Due to its lightweight nature and darker shade, you can say goodbye to those itchy sweat patches. The finer weave of chambray also means it’s more breathable because of its higher thread count. The only bamboozling thing is that Chambray wrinkles up easily. Nonetheless, you can still rely on this one as it’s easy to maintain and soothe the summer blues.
- JERSEY: You can find this popular in every niche and corner of the local market near to your place. The skin-friendly and lightweight fabric are used for making T-shirts, sportswear, etc. It is a cool and soothing material which dries very quickly without leaving any body odour or sweat patches. It is one of the best fabrics to carry in the summer months, very comfortable and airy.
- BAMBOO: The sustainable fabric can be another option to wear during summer for sweat-free summer days. It has moisture absorbing properties making a summer essential. The fabric absorbs all the body odour and helps fight the bacteria. One of the most eco-friendly fibres that help you maintain your cool.
All the above-mentioned fabrics are regarded as the optimum choices for sweat-free days but the market is flooded with other fabrics also which are not your best friend to beat the summer heat. Some of them are:
- SILK: You can call it luxurious and magnificent. The velvety soft and smooth fabric is known as the Rolls Royce of textile industries. It just glides on the skin making you feel very comfortable and relaxed. It allows air circulation but it is not an ideal choice for hot and humid weather. Silk doesn’t absorb moisture well and is water-resistant also, leaving you with the ringed patterns on your back or armpits. Also, the UV rays from the Sun fade out the silk garments. And of course, maintenance is high for this fabric. It is a 50-50 choice for Silk in summers.
- RAYON: All types of rayon whether you talk about Lyocell, viscose or Tencel, each of them is water repellent. These fabrics will leave you feeling damp once you are drenched in sweat. Also, these fabrics crinkle up with ease which hinders your polish look. It can be avoided during the summer months. You can wear it in the fall season
- POLYESTER: It is a widely known fabric used to make activewear or gym wear. It is a lightweight and long-lasting fabric. It is a water-resistant fabric so the sweat evaporates quickly instead of sitting on your skin. The downside of this not-so-expensive fabric is that it does not absorb any sweat, leaving behind odour patches.
- DENIM: Although it is made from cotton only, it has a thick texture and the heavier fabric has very less room for stretchability. It is not ideal for summer as you will feel trapped because there is little or no room for air circulation. It is easy to maintain but sweat patches don’t air dry. Still, if you want clothes looking like denim, then you can
- NYLON: It is a pure synthetic fabric which is usually used in stockings, pantyhose, and slips to prevent static. As a result of its low absorbency, you feel sweaty after using it. It is also possible for nylon to feel stiffer, like tulle, depending on the weave or knit. Due to its loose weave, it appears to be breathable but sits heavily on the skin like a net.
- SATIN: Another fabric that you should avoid completely during the summer months as it cannot absorb moisture at all and you will feel wet and sticky in the summer months. The synthetic fabric gives you a polished look but on the other hand, your sweat patches can be seen on your clothes. It is a cousin of velvet and has the properties of heat generation making you feel hot during summers.
- LEATHER: Mostly made from animal hide, it is a thick fabric which will keep you warm during chilly months but carrying leather outfits in summer is a big no-no. Even leather shirts which are a trend do not control any odour and make you feel smelly every time you wear them. There is no space for air circulation.
The wrong fabric choice can put a damper on your summer mood if the hot weather isn’t bad enough. Summer can be challenging for people with sensitive skin and eczema. Nevertheless, you needn’t worry. Reevaluate your wardrobe for comfort, breathability, and sweat protection while the sun beats down hotter than ever (or so it feels!).
